Classic Jaguars on Display at Local Show

Wake Forest, NC – 7/07/2014 –
Classic Jaguar sports cars and sedans will be on display Saturday, July 19th, 10 am to 4 pm, on the grounds of the Switzerland Inn at Little Switzerland on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  The show is the annual judged Concours d’Elegance of the Carolina Jaguar Club.  The public is welcome free of charge.
Early registrations include  XK120/140 sports cars from the 1950s and multiple E-Type sports cars, perhaps Jaguar’s most famous and endearing model.  Additionally, new cars from Jaguar’s current model lines will also be on display including an F Type Jaguar Coupe ordered and manufactured for this event….experience this new ride!
The Concours d’Elegance – essentially a beauty pageant for coach-built cars and high fashions – came into vogue in the late 1920s in Europe.  Wealthy clients ordered custom coachwork on their favorite marque’s chassis, then proudly debuted their one-of-a-kind cars, often accompanied by a model in a coordinated outfit from a leading couturier.
Jaguar clubs continue this tradition with local shows where both classic and modern “cats” are judged for cleanliness and authenticity using procedures established by the Jaguar Clubs of North America (JCNA).  JCNA, which includes the state-wide Carolina Jaguar Club (CJC), has nearly 60 local clubs including Mexico City and five in Canada, and claims over 6,000 member families.
CJC’s Concours Chair Gregg Gaylard (  invites everybody to join the club for a day in the mountains and a special show.  The Switzerland Inn offers free parking and a full-service bar and restaurant.  Take the I-40/Exit 85/Marion and Highway 221 North.  Follow By-Pass 221/226 North approx. 17.5 miles, turn left onto Highway 226 North.  Turn right at intersection of Hwy. 226/226-A to access the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Drive South 3 miles on Parkway to Milepost 334/Little Switzerland  ( 35.92º N latitude; 82.06º West longitude).
The Carolina Jaguar Club is a state-wide organization.  Monthly meetings are held wherever we find a social or significant event, an interesting car show, or gatherings organized by nearby Jaguar clubs.  For membership information contact

Mining In Little Switzerland

The minerals found in the area have attracted interest since the first inhabitants came long ago. Indians have used local mica for ornamentation and gravesites for centuries. Early explorers are said to have come through here around 1540 looking for gold and silver.  Legend suggests that the Spanish worked the Horse Stomp Mine.

Emerald mining began in Little Switzerland around 1895 at the Crabtree Emerald Mine. Today this abandoned mine still draws rock hounds from all over the world

Families and groups of all sizes love going Gem Mining in NC when visiting the NC Blue Ridge Mountains. Emerald Village is a fascinating group of gem and mining attractions located just 3 miles from the Switzerland Inn.

Come try your luck gem hunting.   Then come stay with us at the Switzerland Inn or the Diamondback Motorcycle Lodge and grab a meal at the Chalet Restaurant.
