The cost to register in this event is $20.00 per bike and $10.00 per extra rider. This includes dinner for each rider. All riders will ride as the first wave in the Memorial Day parade, and will then leave town for a scenic ride in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

All proceeds for this event will be donated to the Mount Mitchell Marine Corps League 1266 to assist veterans who are unable to assist themselves and must depend on others for help.

On Friday night May 24 2013, starting at 5:00 pm, the Burnsville Town Square will be the place to be! There will be live music the night before, refreshments, a raffle, door prizes, and 50/50. Come enjoy a free concert Rockin’ The Village Green with the bands Red Line and Mid Century Rockers while watching “Cruisin’ the way it used to be.”

Only go out on your motorcycle when the roads are clear of snow and ice. Be sure that any ice that may have formed has completely melted away before you set out.

Dress appropriately with insulated gear and ensure none of your skin is exposed. Heated gear such as heated vests, gloves, and grips can make for a more comfortable ride.

When calculating the temperature to determine whether it is too cold, take the wind chill factor into account.

Take breaks and warm up with a hot cup of coffee/tea/ hot chocolate. When taking a break, move around to get the blood flowing throughout your body especially to your hands and feet.

Wear Layers. The morning chill can give way to bright sun and pleasant temperatures. That heavy jacket you’re wearing in the morning can become too warm in the afternoon. As you get warmer you can open and shed layers. If the wind picks up but the sun is shining, you can wear your shell while removing the insulation. Don’t forget to wear a hat. It can help keep you warm in the morning and cool in the afternoon.

Get an early start. Shorter days mean you need to start off early. You will be rewarded with songbirds and wildlife activity. Remember the sun will set earlier, so don’t get caught out in the dark on the trail.

Be prepared. Make sure you are ready for the elements.  Protection from the rain and the wind is essential. If you are going on a longer day hike, know the weather forecast and carry a weather radio.

Leave the insect repellant at home. Most of the flying, biting, nasty insects have died off or have gone into hibernation.

Eat some food. Eating food as you are hiking keeps the body running. Avoid having a heavy meal before or while on the trail.
