This weekend, as the leaves are peaking in color, drivers and motorcyclists riding 226A and North Carolina’s mountain roads will need an extra dose of patience…make that two.
The fall colors are peaking and the roadways will see more traffic this weekend than just about any other time of year thanks to the long awaited leaf season along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Even though you may have to take it a bit slower, the ride is still well worth the effort. An open sports car or motorcycle is the best way to enjoy not only the changing fall colors but also take in the scents and sounds of the dense forest that borders the Diamondback as it leads to the Blue Ridge Parkway and The Switzerland Inn and the Diamondback Motorcycle Lodge at Milepost 334.
Fall colors are just beginning to pop out along the Blue Ridge Parkway and what we like to call The DiamondBack (226A). The higher elevations near Switzerland Inn and neighoring Spruce Pine, NC will be seeing the first spots of color this weekend.
The Inn, at Parkway Milepost 334, is a great spot to take in the panorama of deep reds, crisp yellows and fire-bright oranges as the colors begin to fill the trees along the Parkway.
